The Bulloch Packing Co. opened here in 1917 and operated under other names in the next few years including Southern States Packing Co. and Statesboro Provision Co. before closing. Rumor has it that several people died there in a fire, but not true. However, a couple of the original investors that lost money in this and other business ventures committed suicide shortly after the market crash.
