This old crematorium is the only abandoned structure on Blackbeard Island. It's all that's left of the late 1800s quarantine station for yellow fever inspections of boats entering southeastern ports. All of the facilities were wiped out in the massive tidal wave and hurricane of 1898 that hit this coastal GA island.
