The Chickamauga Coke Ovens

Built in 1897, they were owned and operated by the Durham Iron and Coal Company. in Walker County. These ovens were used to turn coal into coke for use in the iron and steel foundries in nearby Chattanooga, TN. The mines were depleted and then abandoned in 1951.
