Swords Community in Morgan County

Interesting history but sad. This building is all that is left of the business district of the once incorporated town of Swords. Once a thriving little town which included a bank, post office, school, jail, general supply store, blacksmith shop, grist mill, cotton gin and cotton warehouses. A distillery founded by J.B Swords, which the town got its name from was the beginning of this town but with prohibition the town died.
The brick structu...re to the right was the vault of the bank and the iron frame around the door of the building, which you can only see the top, was once the frame to the door of the bank. Across the street still sits the safe that was in the vault. The brick for this building and for the bank were made across the RR tracks a few hundred feet away. The building is occupied by the present owner who was very nice in letting me take some pictures and go through the structure, his home. He also told me some of the history of the area.
