Fort McAllister is an earthen fort constructed by the Confederates at Genesis Point on the Ogeechee River. It was one of three forts defending Savannah. It held on against a few attacks by the Union Navy. It was stormed and taken on December 13, 1864 in a fifteen minute battle by some of Sherman's troops. The fort is just a part of Fort McAllister State Park.
