The Little Town of Salem in Oconee County

It was founded in 1818 and Salem Methodist Church was organized in 1820. The town did well enough supporting the local farming community. After the war it still did quite nicely until the railroad went somewhere else and then the boll weevil decimated the cotton farms. The town dried up and this church, the second one on the site(1894) is really the only reminder of the town. (Oconee County)
