Plantation House in Allatoona

John Clayton built this plantation house in Allatoona around 1840. In October 1864 a small but bloody battle was fought, the Battle of Allatoona Pass. The home served as s hospital for confederate soldiers, there are still bloodstains on the second floor and bullet holes on the outside of the house. 21 Unknown Confderate soldiers were buried in the back. John Clayton died about a month after the battle, partially due to shock from what they had seen and been through. The home has been owned by the Mooney family for quite awhile now.
