Mershon GA

This is my grandfather Romey Johnson in the Mershon Mercantile around 1950. The building was a wooden structure on the corner of what is now HW 32 & Mershon Road and housed the Mershon post office and the mercantile. It was one of at least 6 such stores that offered groceries, meat, dry goods, etc. at one point in Mershon. There was also a turpentine platform, water driven sawmill, cotton gin, picture show (theatre), and depot.
