Goodwill Cemetery Fort Valley GA

This cemetery is for people who have no family to bury them or take care of their graves or have no other way to be buried so the county steps in to bury them, that's why almost all of the graves are falling in. It's sad to see the downfall in this cemetery.

  1. Interesting. If Goodwill Cemetery was/is for poor orphans, Peach Co. should be lauded for being "progressive" before progressive became "a thing". Providing such grand monuments as the one pictured and many more not shown...for paupers, how kind. Cemeteries were segregated, and regardless of Blacks' socioeconomic status, they weren't allowed interment at oaklawn; if they so desired. Many buried at Goodwill are beloved pillars of families and social groups. Burial standards have changed since the 1800's and time has lapsed, including all that encompasses. A visit to Goodwill will show they are not forgotten. A visit to oaklawn cemetery would provide for a great comparison.
