The Famous Big Chicken in Marietta

Located at Cobb Parkway (US41) and Roswell Road (GA120), it was constructed in 1963 by Tubby Davis to promote his restaurant, Johnny Red Chick, Chuck and Shake. The eyes rolled and the beak moved up and down but the vibration from the machinery was so bad it could break windows. Mr. Davis later sold the restaurant to his brother and it became a KFC Franchisee. In 1993 a storm damaged the landmark and KFC decided to repair it after public outcry. The Big Chicken is used by pilots as a landmark. Many people use it in giving directions. KFC has closed the building and gutted it for much need renovations, but the Big Chicken will remain.
