The Early Hill Plantation near Greensboro

It was built around 1825 by Mayor John Brown of Greensboro. The only real external difference between now and then was the addition of a porch in the 1940's. The Mayors daughter was killed when a tree branch fell on her in the 1830's and there are reports the house is haunted.

  1. Joel Early, Jr. (c1791-1851) is to have called his c1820 home 'Dover,' by which his plantation was known. Thomas, in 1997 submission to the National Register of Historic Places for a Lickskillet Rd. property, did so under the name 'Early Hill.' So I guess at least two Greene County properties are called such. Nothing new: "In the late antebellum period, Col.. Richard Willis, a neighbor of Joel Early, referred to his own plantation as 'Dover.'"
