Valdosta State University

This building is West Hall, the centerpiece & oldest building at Valdosta State University in Lowndes County. In 1916 the Georgia legislature approved $50,000 to build an Administration building for the South Georgia State Normal College and the city of Valdosta donated an additional $25,000 for the construction. The structure was only the second building constructed at the college. After the building was completed in 1917 it was named West Hall in honor of Senator W.S. West following his death in 1914. West had been one of the driving forces behind the development of a college in Valdosta as the author of the Colleges charter and the first President of the Board of Trustees. The building is still in use today. With a distinctive dome & spanish mission architecture, It is a very picturesque building- I captured this photo last night at sunset!
