Clayton First UMC
It was established some time before 1842. The first church was a small brick structure on a hill above Chruch Street. It was used until 1879 when land on Main Street was donated to build the new church. A new wood structure was completed here that year and it stood untouched until 1923 when the congregation outgrew the building. Rather than start over, they expanded the church to what you see here and covered it with solid granite, In 1929 the interior was remodeled again and in 1940 a choir loft was built. Today the church is still quite active..
