The Billy Carter Museum
This is Billy Carter's Service Station in Plains, a small town in Sumter County that just so happens to be the hometown (& current home) to president Jimmy Carter. Billy Carter was the brother of President Jimmy Carter - Billy had a knack for attracting the attention of the press with his unusual, quirky and most of the time embarrassing behavior for his brother & the white house. While the press usually followed him around constantly photographing & printing stories that mad...e him sound like an "ignorant backwoods Georgia redneck" contrary to what the press said about him, he was very smart... he intentionally portrayed the image many remember him by to the media simply because he was irritated about constantly being stalked by the press, making it almost impossible to live a normal life. Billy died in 1988 from pancreatic cancer... 20 years later this museum was dedicated to his life! Jay Blanton
