The 1848 original train depot in Tunnel Hill is made out of granite. Jefferson Davis once made a speech here and it was one of the sites visited by Andrew's Raiders in the Great Locomotive Chase. Just down the tracks is the historic tunnel. There are plans to restore it once funding is in place. It is part of the 85 acre Tunnel Hill Heritage site owned by Whitfield County. It includes the tunnel itself, the heritage museum, the Battlefield of Tunnel Hill, the 1850 Rev. Clisby Austin House, and various other buildings along with this one.
