Back on February 23rd, Paul Bridges posted a picture of one of the more modern buildings of the R.D. Cole Manufacturing Complex in Newnan. This view is of an earlier part of the complex. The front elevation of the structure was built around 1886. As you look towards the back, you see both stonework and brickwork. the lower level stonework may go back to pre-Civil War or shortly after. The brickwork as you move to the second fllor and up was added in the late 1870's to 1886. Andy Sarge
The R.D. Cole Manufacturing Company, Newnan, Georgia, began in 1854 as Cole and Barnes, a saw mill. In 1877 the business moved to front the Atlanta and West Point Railroad. It produced saw-mills, corn mills, boilers, engines, and eventually became a manufacturer of steel, aluminum and alloy. The firm was the second largest water tower manufacturer in the United States in the 1890s. In 1968, Garver Tank and Manufacturing Company, a subsidiary of Union Tank Car Company (Chicago, Illlinois), bought the company. Here is a different perspective on an abandoned house in Coweta County that has been posted before. The tax record says it was built in 1890 but it almost certainly built earlier. Looks like a Gothic Revival I-type house. I have no history and do not know if it will be saved.

It was established in 1836. In 1830, several families descended from Scotch-Irish origin came to the White Oak area of Coweta County. Being Presbyterians they had to travel quite a ways to attend services in Newnan. In 1836, they formed their new church and bought a log church from the Methodists. This is the Henderson-Orr House, aka Moss Oak Plantation, on the Coweta/Heard County line. Built around 1790 and added to throughout the years. It's on the National Register. The property is for sale now and hubby and I are actually considering purchase. Patty Ellis

The need for it has long passed but the cost to demolish is too high and since it is high enough to clear the tallest trains of today means it still stands.Andy Sarge
