Old Storefront

Rear view of an old storefront in downtown Hamilton.  Efforts are underway to restore these buildings, which date back to at least 40s, maybe older.

Old Commercial Building in Shiloh

I don't know if it started as a post office, but that's what it is or was most recently.

St. John Pitts Memoerial CME Church in Waverly Hall

The current sanctuary was dedicated in 1945 and the congregation was found in the late 1880's as St. Johns CME church. That's about all I know about the history

Old Building

This sweet old barn/building is set in Downtown little Hamilton. Simple but oh so pretty. Don’t know the history of it.

The Old Hamilton Public School

Built in 1930 with a slight variation on a standard design. It still serves as the office of the Harris County Board of Education.

Hamilton United Methodist Church

It was established in 1824 on the western side of town. In 1880 the building was sold when they moved into a new wood frame church on the present site. In 1926 that church burned and this structure was built soon after and is still active today.

Little Structure in Hamlton

I have no idea what this little structure in Hamilton was for. It's tiny but it's brick and with a step and an old pipe type railing. Being that is is only a few yards away from the old railroad grade, I wonder if it was an old crossing shanty.

The Old Masonic Lodge in Hamilton

Built by Hamilton Lodge # 16 Chapter 30 right after the Civil War in December 1865. It has been a home to commercial businesses downstairs for much of its history. Sadly it has been comdemned and demolition will come soon.

Hamilton Baptist Church

It was established in 1829 not long after the city and Harris County was founded. It is one of the oldest congregations in the county. The church dominated the mostly rural county. In 1889 as the new church building was being costructed, the Pine Mountain Baptist Association was formed with Hamilton Baptist as the dominant player. In 1890 the present Victorian Style Church was dedicated and is still active today.

Old Store in Hamilton

The business that built the building was established in 1879 but I could not read the whole keystone.

Ellerslie Methodist Church in Harris County

In July 1910, a revival was held near Ellerslie by the president of a small Methodist College in Mississippi. This motivated some attendees to form Ellerslie Methodist Church and this structure was completed soon after on land donated by Adger S Ellison. The church is still active and the building has had renovations and repairs over the years but the structure is basically the same.
