Some History of Dade County

..
... Been debating on this one. Don't really want to talk about the park, I wanted to pass on some interesting info I found out about the county it is in .... Dade County. Was on the bike and taking a break and an old timer was telling stuff that peaked my interest. Dade County was established in 1837 yet you could not get to it from Georgia until this park was built in 1939. For over 100 years you could only get to it from TN or AL. Legend has it that it seceded from the St...ate AND the Union in 1860. In 1945, President Truman sent a telegram that was read during a celebration of their rejoining the Union, thanking them. There is a lot of awesome old structures up there and the friendliest people. I wish I had more pics but I will be back up there on the backroads this summer. One final note ...... in the comments there will be a pic of the Georgia quarter. You will notice that Dade County was left off it. Now historians say the secession was with the state and it rejoined with the state. Maybe the omission is a sign of something the historians don't know.
