Scull Shoals

Scull Shoals is a ghost town in northwestern Greene County, This pic is of what is left of the company store. There are other remnants of the mill, power plant, buildings and a bridge. A timeline, 1st settlers 1784, Fort Clark 1793 and the town grew around it. Georgia's first papermill was built here in 1810, the mills burned in 1845, were rebuilt in 1847. Although there was no damage during the Southern Revolution, a flood destroyed a lot of it in 1887. The mills were sold in 1897 and the town abandoned, the property was bought in 1935 by the US government and the Oconee National Forest began.. Somewhere in the area, there are suppose to be 2 Indian burial mounds but I have not found them YET!
