Lawton Place Manor in Mt. Airy

Built in 1875 by General Alexander Lawton of Savannah. Mt. Airy was the crest of the gread of the Atlantic & Danville later Southern Railway. Mt Airy became somewhat of a summer resort town for the wealthy. After General Lawton died in 1896, it was sold and has had many owners and renters. The most famous was Ty Cobb who lived there in the late 50's. Now an event facility.
