Lowndes County

This is an old "hit and miss" engine that was used on what was once a farm in rural Lowndes County; now the Kinderlou Forest golf course is where the field used to be- this still stands on the edge of it. A hit-and-miss engine is a type of four-stroke internal combustion engine. It was conceived in the late 19th century and produced by various companies from the 1890s through approximately the 1940s. The name comes from the speed control on these engines (as opposed to the "throttle governed" method of speed control).
