Troupville
Even though it's just a marker, this is definitely a part of forgotten georgia. I've lived in Valdosta my entire life and never stopped to read this until today - the marker itself was placed in 1927- but since Hwy 133 was 4 laned you can't even see the marker from the road! A marker that designates the original site of Troupville- the first town settled in Lowndes County- sits at the corner of Val Tech Rd & GA Hwy 133, right across from Valdosta State Prison. When the railroad came through, they moved the town to where the railroad was passing through- 4 miles away, naming it what we know today- Valdosta!
