Academy Baptist Church near Jefferson

 Although the current building dates back to 1874, the church is the fourth oldest in Jackson County, founded in the early 1800's. One of the founding members Jared Cunningham came here from Virginia in the wilderness day. Since he was accustomed to living among the native villages, he was able to convert quite a few in the area to Christianity.
