George W. Barnes Building in Waycross

Don't be fooled: small, unassuming old buildings may be hiding some BIG history! This is the  It was built in 1913; it was originally known as the Automatic Market, a unique cold storage meat market- something that had never been seen in the area before! After the Automatic Market closed it served as the office for early real estate developers A.W. Gilchrist & Lott Investment Corporation- the ones responsible for constructing many of the local buildings in what is now the Waycross Historic District. Since 1932, the building has housed law offices for a number of prominent local law firms.
