The original hotel was finished in January 1929, with a gala opening in February 1929. When it first opened it was a popular destination for train engineers & travelers who spent the night in Waycross before boarding a train to their next destination when the railroad was the main source of transportation - a time when Waycross was becoming a maj...or hub for train traffic. The hotel was renovated a few years ago after sitting vacant for many years- becoming an eyesore to many people, leading many to claim that the old dilapidated building was haunted! Fortunately It was restored- with respect to the original design- and now serves as apartments for limited income families.
