The Savannah Independent Presbyterian Church

Was organized in 1755 and it's first building was on what's now Ellis Square on property granted by King George II. That building burned in 1790 and an new building was constructed in 1800 on what is now Telfair Square. That building was damaged in a hurricane. With the congregation growing a new church was constructed at the current location and dedicated in 1819. Present at the dedication ceremony was President James Monroe with members of his cabinet and John C Calhoun. The church was nearly destroyed in the Great Fire of 1889 and the church was reconstructed exactly as it had been and is today.
