The Washington-Wilkes Historical Museum in Washington

The house was built in 1835 by Albert Semmes on land owned by Revolutionary War hero Micajah Williamson. In 1857the house and 100 acres was purchased by the states first Railroad Commissioner, Samuel Barnett. He enlarged the house to it's present size and style and it stayed in his families hands until the death of his daughter in 1913. The house was purchased by the city in the 1950's and renovated, opening in 1960 as the museum.
