Tucked away a few blocks off of the main highway in Morven, a small rural town in Brooks County, there is a subtle reminder of a bygone era long before cars were the main source of transportation: The Morven Railroad Depot! It was built by South Georgia Railroad in the 1890's. At it's peak, South Georgia Railroad carried passengers & freight between Adel, GA all the way to Perry, Florida- stopping... at this Depot and many other small towns in between. As cars became more affordable & Georgia made better roads to accommodate the new cars, people stopped using the trains to get around, so passenger service eventually stopped. According to sources i talked to at the Morven Peach Festival this past weekend, plans are in the works to revitalize this old passenger depot!
