This historical building in downtown Valdosta in Lowndes County was built back in 1910 as a United States Post Office and Courthouse. It served that purpose for over half a century- from 1910 until 1968. (that's when a newer, more modern facility was completed a few blocks away at the corner of North Patterson & East Magnolia!) In 1970, the City of Valdosta bought the building & restored it. In Au...gust of 1987, a burglar set fire to the building, almost burning the historic building to the ground! Fortunately, Valdosta firefighters were able to save it. After about a year of restoring the fire damage & renovations, the city administration was able to move back in. It is currently the city of Valdosta's City Hall, where it houses the City Council Chambers, as well as the offices of the Mayor, City Manager, City Clerks, and other local government staff!
