January Photo Challenge #5:
In 1810, George Humphrey, an original builder of the fort, sold Fort Yargo and 121 surrounding acres at auction to John Hill for $167.00. John Hill and his family lived on the property for a number of years. The family cemetery is located in Fort Yargo State Park. This particular marker for little Vivien Tucker, who passed in 1911 just over a month shy of her 3rd birthday, is emblematic of how tough life was in years past. With infant mortality rates often running as high as 25%, the graves of very young children are a common occurrence in cemeteries over 100 years old. (Barrow County)
