It was built in 1870 by Jewel Mills owner Daniel Jewell. Jewell was a very successful businessman who had pretty much built the town named after him. In 1869, the congregation was founded as the "Missionary Baptist Church of Christ at Jewell.". The church is a replica of the church in Winchester New Hampshire where Mr. Jewell was raised. The church is made of high quality locally made bricks and the construction was of the highest quality craftsmanship. It still serves the congregation today.
