It was founded in 1828 and is one of the oldest church's in Troup County. The church was first called Mount Pleasant Methodist Episcopal Church and services were held in the cabin of Thomas Evans. In 1834 a Log Church was built in Meriwether County about a mile away from Mountville. After the Civil War it was decided to move the church to Mountville to be close to most of the congregation and in 1871 a new church was built where the Mountville Cemetery is now. In 1908 the current structure was built closer in town and it was renamed Mountville Methodist Church.
