It was actually organized as a Presbyterian Church in 1785. In 1783 Sir John Talbot moved too the area when he got a land grant of 50,000 acres. In 1793, he deeded 2 acres to the Presbyterians and a log church was built. The church didn't make it and the remaining 15 members decided to leave and join Washington Presbyterian and offered their church too the Methodists.in 1820. Now with a thriving church, the Methodists decided to build a new church in 1860 on the site of the log church. That church was replaced in 1911 with the current structure. The cemetery is also very historical with religious and politically prominent people as well as veteran's from the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.
