Akin Memorial UMC in Wayne County

In 1892, Lawrence Akin built Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, in the community of Mt. Pleasant. Mr Akin was a successful lumber and turpentine magnate who was also a state senator. He built the church so his expanding family would not have to travel to Brunswick to worship. The craftsmanship was and remains exraordinary for a rural church. The the end of the 1930's the structure needed some work and the Akin family paid for the restoration. In 1945 it was renamed
