It was established in 1840 near Rock Mill Plantation when William Shivers donated 3 acres for a new church. The church was constructed at the same time and remained over near the plantation until 1894 when it was moved to it's present location in Jewel to serve the Methodists in the mill community. When the Jewel Mill burned in 1927, many families moved away and church membership dwindled. Today the church still stands, restored and well cared for , again by the owners of Rock Mill Plantation.
