Darien United Methodist's roots can arguably be traced to 1737 when the founder of Methodism, John Wesley spent a couple of days with the Scot's who founded Darien, but it took until 1836 to get enough members to organize a congregation. The first church was laid down in 1841. In 1863, a Union Troop burned the town but could not destroy the church, a hurricane in 1881 did in the original church. The present structure replaced it in 1883 and has been going strong since.
