My grandfather was one of the first to be stationed at the old Coast Guard station on St.Simons Island in Glynn County. He was originally from North Carolina, but met my grandmother there on the island. During the war, he served on a DE (Destroyer Escort). The picture on the top shows him standing in front of the station. He is the tall one in the chief petty officer uniform). Some of these pictures will be displayed in the Coast Guard station when it reopens.
