It was established as Friendship Presbyterian in 1843 down by the Etowah River. Around 1851, it was decided to move the church to the city and the new church as built in 1853 and renamed, however the cemetery remained in the original location and was open for member's burials for over 100 years more. During the Civil War, General Sherman used the building as an HQ and livery. The building stands tall and proud today and still serves the active congregation.
