It is the oldest survivng Methodist Church in Washington County. It is believed the main structure goes back to the 1790's. The church was in the path of Sherman's March to the Sea. In November 1864, over 11,000 men camped out in the area around the church. While Sherman camped out side, several officers and their horse's spent the night in the church. They burned most of the old records, hymnals and some of the siding in the church's stove. They left the next day and the church survived. In 1922, it was put on rollers and moved 138 feet to where it is now. It has been epanded and renovated but it's basically the same building as it originally was.
