This is one of the oldest church's in the Elbert/Hart/Madison County area of the state. It was established in 1794 when Middleton Wood allowed Absalom Stinchcomb and 2 others to establish a church on his land. Stinchcomb, a Revolutionary War veteran from Maryland had been granted 200 acres of land nearby. The first meeting house was a typical colonial back country brush arbor. A log cabin church was built not long after. It was replaced by this building in 1876. The congregation is still quite active.
