It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places -originally a log structure built by a logging company and rebuilt in stone during the 1930s. It now serves as a hiking store along the Appalachian Trail on Blood Mountain in Neels Gap, Union County.
Blood Mountain is the highest peak on the Georgia section of the Appalachian Trail and the sixth-tallest mountain in Georgia, with an elevation of 4,458 feet.
