This is overlooking the historic Lowndes County Courthouse in downtown Valdosta from behind the Steeple of the First United Methodist Church. Both of these buildings have been recognizable historic local landmarks in Lowndes County for decades- and they were both built only 1 year apart!
The church was built in 1904, and the courthouse was built in 1905. It’s amazing to think what the walls of these buildings would tell us they’ve seen & heard if they could talk!
The church is still in use to this day, but a new courthouse was built one block away in 2010- so the historic courthouse has sat empty for 8 years. Fortunately, the county knows what an important building this old courthouse is, and they’re currently looking to remodel it!
