This enormous Neoclassical house in Hancock County dates back to the turn of the 20th century. A Georgia Senator began construction on the house but went bankrupt during the process. W.A. Sands, a wealthy Ohio businessman purchased the house and finished it as a hunting lodge. He also purchased 10,000 acres in hopes a family member would farm it. After Sands’ daughter married, the couple lived in the home and it remained in the family until the 1980s. The house sat vacant for years before being purchased in 2014. The new owners are slowly working to renovate the house.
