IN 1859 a meeting was held at a house in southern Troup County to form a new church. The new church was named Salem Methodist. Land was donated by several people to build a church and campground. The frst building was constructed and used until being converted to a Sunday School when a new church was built about 1889, it later burned. The second church was destroyed by a tornado in 1908 and the current church built in 1909.
