White Plains Methodist Church in Greene County

It was organized sometime around 1817 according to reliable oral histories but there are no records until about 1838. The original church was built at what is now Main Street and Georgia 15. Membership swelled during the Civil War when soldiers were using the area Liberty Methodist. Rural folk tend to help each other our and White Plains Baptists also used the Methodist church until their church was constructed in 1871 and then the Methodists used the Baptists new church until this building was constructed in the same year. The church fell into disrepair until being purchased by one of the local families who have done a lot of restoration work. The full history is below.
