Belmont School in Clarke County

This rural one-room schoolhouse was built around 1890 and served grades 1 thru 7. It was closed in 1927 when its students and those of similar schoolhouses in the southeastern portion of the county were consolidated at Gaines Elementary School. At some point the interior was partitioned and the building converted into a residence. The property is currently up for sale; hopefully the new owners will restore the schoolhouse.
