The earliest Methodist Church in Temple was established in 1846 when the town was known as Ringer's Crossroads. The little log church was moved to where the cemetery presently is but dissolved in 1854. In 1856 Asbury Methodist was founded nearby, The city of Temple was incorporated in 1882, and the Methodist Conference decided to build a church in town. That wooden church was dedicated in 1884 and the congregation from Asbury moved there. In 1897, a storm damaged the structure so badly that it had to be rebuilt. Construction on the present structure began in 1898 and the new church, the first brick church in Carroll County, was dedicated in 1900. Temple UMC is still quite active today.
