It was established in 1869 when ex-slaves from Horeb Baptist broke away and started their own church. Through the years the two church's futures have gone in different directions. Union is still a very active church while Horeb has not had a regular service in about 18 years. When Horeb's membership had dwindled to just a few members, Union paid their power bill to keep the lights on in a great show of fellowship and compassion. The current church appears to be the second one, but the date of construction is unsure.
