This was built in 1907-08 as the Bank of Brooks. It went bankrupt during the Boll Weevil Depressions in the mid-1920s, and stood vacant for several years thereafter. In 1942, H. R. Langford, my grandfather, bought it for $325 -- $50 cash down and a $275 mortgage executed on school tablet paper. He ran a general store there until his death in Nov. 1987. The building was sold soon afterward, and has housed a number of businesses since.
