Bethesda United Methodist Church in Hart County

It was established in 1862 very near where this church stands. The land was deeded by John McCurry, whose father, a war of 1812 veteran had settled land in what is now Hart and Elbert Counties. His grandfather was a Revolutionary War Veteran who brought his family to the area after the war. A small wood church was built on this property and served until 1880 when a new church was built on the present site. That church was expanded over the years and served the community well until it was destroyed by fire in February 1941. The present church was dedicated in 1943. The church is still very active.
